Acrylic Paintings: This is why I choose acrylic paint in my art
Why I paint with acrylics
Paintings made with acrylic paint are very common – and for good reason. Acrylics are water-based, dry quickly, and adhere to almost anything: canvas, paper, glass, textiles, etc. It's the paint most people encounter first – in school, art classes, or in a child's hand with a small brush. But for me, it's more than practical. It's personal.
A colourful beginning
I grew up with acrylic paint in large plastic bottles on the kitchen table. They coloured my childhood – in red, yellow, blue, and then into purple, orange, and green when I started mixing myself. That's how I learned to understand colours. Not from theory – but from play. When I rediscovered my old brushes in 2018, there was also some leftover acrylic paint waiting. It felt right. Like coming home.
Why I continue
I have unconsciously stuck to acrylics ever since. Not because it was a strategy – but because it suits me. It dries quickly, so I can paint in layers. It allows room for impulse and intuition. And the colours? I can keep mixing them. Something new emerges every time.
